Okay. I have some options here. I can stay with the company and keep the same rate of pay,
or I can accept 3 weeks severance pay and try to find another job. With three weeks pay I could get the hell out of
Houston and try to start over someplace new. I have one hell of an
opportunity here. What would you guys do?

Ok to answer this-I'll try to set my personal feelings aside and actually think this through logically. So let's weigh the options.1) if you stay with the company at your same rate of pay what happens to you when the store closes-is there another location that you can easily commute to? And do you want to since you previously expressed dissatisfaction with your job with that company? 2)If you went someplace new -where would you go? Distance plays a huge factor in how far 3 weeks pay will take you. 6 weeks pay might get you out of texas but I doubt 3 weeks pay would. Because there's moving expenses plus you've already stated if you break your lease their gonna charge you alot~ Further hindering your disposable income. Things to find out would be: where are you going; how much is it to rent someplace there; how much do they pay in that area; would they require app fees/deposits/two months rent in advance/etc; what would moving expenses be: uhaul/gas/food/utilites. Oh and in your case -you'd need a friend willing to rent a uhaul for you-private moving companies can get quite pricey! Since you've declined the couch offers-you would at least want to go somewhere you know someone so that they could help you get on your feet if needed.
When I was forced to move to Abilene with my older sister in 2003-I had to put all my stuff in storage and we stayed in her spare bedroom for about 4 months until we couldn't stand her any longer then we got a hotel room for 2 weeks and after that we lucked out and found a really cheap trailer to live in. So basically, even though you are loathe to stay with someone-you might wanna re-think that simply bc it takes 3-6 months to find a job a and a place you can afford with said job when you move to a new city. If you stayed with someone(particularly if they worked wit you and didn't charge you rent right away) then your money would go farther and you wouldn't be reliant on them for everything and you could eventually get your own place(with your own couch). I still believe that everything happens for a reason so one way or another you are meant to start a new chapter of some sort in your life now. Good Luck! I'm a phone call away if you need me- remember that!
